intelligence.

"Could it be that the "integrity, stablity, and beauty" of nature is the wellspring of human intelligence? Could it be that the conquest of nature, however clever, is in fact a war against the source of mind?"

"A sure sign of the maturity of intelligence is the evolution of biocentric wisdom, by which I mean the capacity to nurture and shelter life - a fitting standard for a species calling itself Homo sapiens."

From the essay "Some Thoughts on Intelligence", by David Orr, as published in Earth in Mind.
