product.

This post is about one of those things that I have a little bit of trouble bringing up in casual conversation. You know that feeling that you get when you learn something new or interesting? When you wish you could tell everyone you know because you think it's that important?

I'm a little worked up right now about what we're being sold. So much of what we purchase and support is deeply rooted in high pressure marketing, but also in our ability to trust. This isn't anything new. I know that. Right now I'm suspicious of anything on a shelf.

It's because I've been reading and listening of course. It started when I picked up an old mothering magazine and read up on the unregulated industry that is personal hygiene.
Visit Skin Deep to put your personal products to the test.
Visit the Environmental Working Group to learn about the new research on canned goods.

"What is an economy for? If an economy isn't about having healthy lives, good relationships, a sustainable environment, all those kinds of things, then there is something wrong with that economy, something that seriously needs fixing." John De Graaf, producer of the film and book Affluenza, speaker at a recent Bioneers Conference. Listen to the entire Bioneers Free Podcast.

I listened to that program while baking the aforementioned muffins. It's about 20 minutes I think. Good links to good things from that podcast.

I don't always know what I'm going to do with this information right now. I'm still absorbing it. I haven't thrown out all my soup cans or personal hygiene products just yet but I'm getting there.

Wow I love this post, the things you discuss are on my mind a lot. I often feel so deceived, from being inindated with marketing and product placement to what is in what we eat, not to mention what all the waste is doing to our enviroment. The author of the book "Consumed" said on tv last night something to the effect of, we used to produce goods to meet needs now we market goods to create needs. Okay I will step off my soapbox now.

Thanks for the links
