biophilia.

Muddy Ice along the coast near Anchorage.
"Biophilia is a kind of philia or love, but what kind? The Greeks distinguished three kinds of love: eros, meaning love of beauty or romantic love aiming to possess; agape, or sacrificial love, which asks nothing in return; and philia, or the love between friends. The first two of these reveal important parts of biophilia, which probably begins as eros but matures, if at all, as a form of agape."
David Orr, Earth in Mind. From his essay The Coming Biophilia Revolution.

the words that caught me are " ask nothing in return" - this is the key.
